Goals in either half from Morgyn Neill and Gordon Walker saw Dumbarton cruise into the third round of the Scottish Cup.
Midlands League Tayport were new opposition for the Sons, but the Fife side never looked like causing an upset - as boss Stevie Farrell saluted his side for a professional showing.
The gaffer, who tested a 3-5-2 formation in the clash, said: “In these rounds there will always be a shock. The challenge is to make sure that it isn’t you. You don’t want that publicity and negativity.
“It was all about us being professional and doing the job. And we did that.
“In the first-half they sat so deep and we didn’t really move it quick enough between the central midfielders and the front two. But we spoke about it at half-time, changed that and - with no disrespect to Tayport - ran out comfortable winners.”
Gordon Walker and Cammy Clark earned recalls to the side, as boss Farrell switched to a 3-5-2 - with Ally Roy also restored to the starting lineup.
Roy looked determined to make his mark straight away, as he burst clear down the left before picking out Dom Docherty - who had an early penalty shout waved away by referee Scott Donohoe.
Leighton McIntosh was next to threaten, with his bustling run opening up space - but visiting keeper Gary Thain comfortably held the Dundonian’s shot.
Corners have been a huge threat for Sons this season, and Ryan Blair’s inswinging delivery then created another opening - but Roy saw an effort from inside a packed penalty area blocked on the line.
Dom Docherty was next to go close, as he had an effort saved by Thain in the away goal, before the away side gave Sons a huge scare.
There looked little on as Ben Sivewright went for goal from all of 35 yards, but his blistering effort clipped the bar with Shay Kelly at full stretch.
Dumbarton responded, with Cammy Clark’s clever pass sending Scott Honeyman in on goal - but Thain again reacted well to keep the scores level.
It felt like a goal had been coming all half for the Sons however, and eventually their possession paid off.
Superb play from Honeyman saw the forward spin away from a challenge and spread the ball wide for Gordon Walker - who was tripped as he attempted to race down the right wing.
Dom Docherty’s free-kick had white shirts queuing up the far post, with Morgyn Neill towering above teammates Mark Durnan and Leighton McIntosh to send a header into the top corner - for his first goal of his second spell in G82.
The defender should’ve added a second almost immediately with a thumping header from Ryan Blair’s corner off target.
However Sons wouldn’t have to wait long in the second-half for the killer second goal.
Ryan Blair’s deep cross found the onrushing Gordon Walker at the back post, and the full-back nodded beyond Thain and into the net.
A sharp stop from the full-stretch Thain denied Sons a third as Ally Roy’s neat flick set up Leighton McIntosh to try his luck from the edge of the area. Before the keeper bailed out defender Greg McColm - after his short backpass had sent Scott Tomlinson clean through on goal.
Man of the Match Walker almost added a second in the dying minutes, with Chris Johnston dancing beyond a collection of challenges to tee up the full back - however he was narrowly off target, as Sons saw out the game with minimal fuss.
