Clinical Annan consigned Dumbarton to a fourth defeat of 2025.
After holding firm in a first-half where Stevie Farrell’s men were well on top, the Galabankies netted twice in the second period - either side of Joel Mumbongo's first Dumbarton goal.
New signing Milosz Sliwinski was handed his debut between the sticks, with the 17-year-old signed just hours before the game following Owen Hayward's return to Falkirk, in the only change from the side which had drawn with Allow a week precious.
The first-half was largely dominated by Sons, albeit only after an early scare from the visitors.
Aidan Smith raced in behind the Dumbarton backline and prodded beyond Sliwinski - but the flag of the assistant had already been raised.
At the other end Sons then showed their threat with neither Mark Durnan nor former Galabankie Cammy Clark could turn in Craig McGuffie's deep corner.
McGuffie would be involved again soon after as a surging run from Carlo Pignatiello found the former Ayr winger, who cut inside and beyond a couple of challenges before flashing over.
A Pignatiello cross then picked out Jinky Hilton on the edge of the area, but he was denied a second goal in as many weeks by a perfectly placed defender on the line - with the rebound lashed off target.
Sons came close again with Ryan Blair and Jinky Hilton sending Craig McGuffie in, but he was denied by a brave Smith save. At the other end meanwhile Sons debutant Sliwinski comfortably held a Paul Smith effort from the edge of the area.
It was all Dumbarton for the rest of the first-half however, as Sons were left frustrated at passing up a collection of chances to take the lead.
The best of those fell to the ever lovely McGuffie. Jinky Hilton robbed Annan player/boss Willie Gibson of possession and squared for McGuffie on his favoured left foot, but he blazed over.
A neat one-two between Sena Niang and Pignatiello then saw the latter denied by Smith, before a clever short corner routine saw Mark Durnan become the second Son to have an effort cleared off the line - as his diving header was hacked to safety.
And Accies loanee Smith in the Annan goal would have the final say in an impressive first-half as he bravely dived at the feet of Hilton after some good play from Kalvin Orsi and Finlay Gray.
As has been the case so often for Sons this season, they were then made to pay for their lack of a cutting edge just four minutes into the second-half - as the Galabankies pounced on a mistake to take the lead.
Aidan Smith robbed Kristian Webster of possession and found Tam Muir, who teed up the onrushing Paul Smith to drill into the net.
Things could've got even worse moments after the restart too as a thunderous strike from the goalscorer was bravely blocked by a collection of white shirts.
However Sons regrouped and quickly returned to creating the better of the openings.
Webster almost atoned for his error but bulleted a header from Craig McGuffie's corner straight at Annan keeper Smith. Carlo Pignatiello then lashed over after he found space down the right, before the visitors finally drew level.
Craig McGuffie opened up space down the left and floated in the perfect cross for Joel Mumbongo, who nodded in his first Dumbarton goal - ending a 24 game drought.
Kristian Webster then had Smith scrambling as he went for goal from all of 35 yards but the ball flashed narrowly wide, before Annan reminded Sons of their threat - with Aidan Smith getting his header from a Willie Gibson cross all wrong.
Jinky Hilton had been a standout for Sons all afternoon and as the game moved towards the final 15 minutes it looked like he'd play a major role in a winner.
Strong play from goalscorer Mumbongo brought Sena Niang into play and he sent Hilton clear - the forward’s fizzing drive was parried by Smith and hung in the air, with Finlay Gray first to the loose ball, but saw his effort bounce off the bar.
Two minutes later the hosts were ahead.
Carlo Pignatiello handled a cross at the far post and ex-Son Willie Gibson rolled beyond Sliwinski from 12 yards to grab all three points.
The final minutes saw Sons throw everything they had forward, but they couldn't find a way beyond Smith - whilst rookie keeper Sliwinski was alert at the other end to deny Tam Muir as Sons suffered a fourth loss in five in 2025.
