KRISTOFFER SYVERTSEN'S last gasp winner saw Dumbarton stay within striking distance of League One safety.
The Norwegian, who has missed almost eight months of the season with injury, stepped off the bench to win a penalty - before nodding in a last second winner.
An incredible final eight minutes saw five goals and two penalties, with the Wasps looking to have won a tense tie eight minutes from time through Blaise Riley-Snow's superb strike.
However Dumbarton's character was evident as Conner Duthie marked his 50th Sons appearance with two goals in two minutes to turn the game on its head.
Stefan Scougall's injury time penalty looked to have broken Sons hearts, only for Syvertsen to touch in from close range - sparking jubilation in the away end.
Stevie Farrell was able to name an unchanged side to the one which had held Montrose to a 0-0 draw a week earlier, and early signs were that a similarly tight game was on the cards.
Veteran Conor Sammon saw an effort brush the post from the edge of the area in one of few openings in the first 20 minutes.
As the half wore on, further chances started to arrive.
Kieran Wright did enough to touch Stefan Scougall's superb effort from the edge of the area, before Conner Duthie saw a cross/shot tipped wide by Alloa keeper PJ Morrison.
Sons' Ross MacLean was next to threaten, as he weaved his way beyond a collection of challenges before being denied by Morrison.
After a low key first-half, Alloa began the second by passing up a golden chance to break the deadlock.
Steven Boyd showed Gregor Buchanan a clear pair of heels and tee'd up Euan Henderson - but the Wasps' top scorer tried to be too cute with his finish from six yards, and was denied by the legs of Wright.
As the game moved towards the hour mark there remained little in the way of goalmouth action.
Conner Duthie burst in on goal, but elected to shoot rather than play in the well placed Joshua Oyinsan - and the chance was lost.
A change of shape then saw the Wasps - and Henderson - come close again, but the Hearts loan man was once more denied by former Alloa stopper Wright.
With 20 minutes remaining, Stevie Farrell turned to his bench - with Kristoffer Syvertsen and Callum Wilson replacing Joshua Oyinsan and Kalvin Orsi.
It would prove to be an inspired change.
A flowing move almost saw Syvertsen turn in Conner Duthie's inviting delivery at the far post - before, with 10 minutes left, the game sparked into life.
Wasps substitute Blaise Riley-Snow was given space 25 yards from goal, and unleashed a stunning effort that arrowed into the top corner.
Sons' response was almost instant.
Brilliant footwork from Kristoffer Syvertsen saw him bamboozle a collection of white shirts, before a lazy leg from Riley-Snow tripped the big Norwegian.
Referee Lorraine Watson pointed straight to the spot, with Conner Duthie smashing home the resulting penalty - with skipper Stuart Carswell having just been replaced due to injury.
Two minutes later Sons - and Duthie - were in dreamland, as Callum Wilson's glorious cross was deftly glanced beyond PJ Morrison by the onrushing Duthie.
Just as Riley-Snow had done however, Duthie would go from hero to villain almost immediately.
As Sons attempted to clear a corner the former Hibernian man hesitated, tripping Stefan Scougall in the area.
Scougall dusted himself down to drill home from 12 yards in the second minute of stoppage time.
There was still time for more drama however, as Sons snatched victory with the final kick of the ball.
Paddy Boyle's deep cross was turned onto the bar, with Kristoffer Syvertsen reacting quickest to nod the ball beyond the grounded Morrison and into the empty net.
